This is the first generation of Bernedoodle, and it’s a Bernese Poodle mix (crossbreed between Bernese Mountain dog and the Standard Poodle breed). F1 Bernedoodle parent breeds are very intelligent, good hunters, and great family pets. So this breed generally shares these traits.
F1 Bernedoodle Breed Description
The first generation of this breed is natural hunters and water dogs. The Bernese Mountain Dog Poodle mix may look like a Bernese that is very hairy or a poodle that curls relaxed. However, this breed looks somewhere in between.
The length of their fur can range from 4-8 inches. Their coat color can either be black and white, all black, brown, or a mix of any of those colors. This breed doesn’t shed much, and they are ideal for those that have allergies.

The F1b means First Generation, while the “B” means the backcross of Bernedoodle. The F1b Bernedoodle is produced by crossing a poodle with an F1 Bernedoodle. This generation is 25% Bernese Mountain Dog and 75% Poodle.
F1b Bernedoodles can live up to 10-16 years; they are healthier than their parent breed.
This breed is non-allergies because they don’t shed. Their coat is curly, and they can survive in the northern region. They are a great family dog because they are active, friendly, intelligent, and obedient. Since their coat is curly, it will require regular grooming to avoid mating.

F2 Bernedoodle
This is the second generation and its produced by crossing an F1 Bernedoodle mix with another F1 Bernedoodle.
This breed may have that soft fleecy coat we love in doodles; they possess an improper coat. The breed may suffer more health problems than their parent breed; F2 Bernedoodles requires more attention to their counterpart, though this breed is a great family pet because they are very friendly, intelligent, and obedient also.

This breed is a hybrid cross, so they are healthier, and they have a long life span, though some possible health issues may arise when your pet gets older. However, Bernedoodles are prone to the genetic diseases that their parent breed (Bernese Mountain Dog and the Standard Poodle) deal with.
Researches and studies have proven that Bernedoodles does not suffer from serious health issues like cancer. This breed suffers from this minor health problem like Elbow, PRA, CHD, patella, and VonWillebrand’s disorders.
