Can Labradoodles Eat Bananas?

Giving a Labradoodle a banana can be a fun treat, but it’s always a good idea to take a break and wonder whether or not they’re safe for your Labradoodle. Some of the foods humans can eat are toxic to dogs, and it’s important to know what to avoid when giving your Labradoodle a delicious treat.

So, can Labradoodles eat bananas? Labradoodles can eat bananas but avoid banana peels. Bananas are a great source of potassium and various vitamins for your Labradoodle. This makes bananas a healthy treat if given in moderation. Bananas help to normalize blood pressure and improve heart function.

Even though bananas are a great treat for Labradoodles, you have to be careful with how much you feed your dog. As with any human food, it is important to give it in moderation as it wasn’t made for them. Let me tell you everything you need to know about feeding bananas to your Labradoodle.

Health Benefits of Bananas

Bananas are packed with electrolytes, minerals, essential amino acids, Vitamins C and B6, and perhaps most importantly potassium. Bananas are a completely fantastic source of potassium.

These are all things that Labradoodles need to get through their diet, but it’s something they can usually have a hard time doing just by getting regular dog food. Bananas are a very natural way for Doodles’ to get there fill on these vital nutrients.

As I mentioned above, bananas can help to normalize blood pressure and improve heart function in Labradoodles.

While bananas aren’t the lowest calorie food for dogs, they are quite low-calorie if you compare them to other treats, and for a dog, they are absolutely a treat and not just another kind of food. Since Labradoodles aren’t normally used to eating bananas, it’s quite different from what they usually eat, making it almost as a dessert to them.

Bananas are also quite low in sodium and cholesterol, which is why some vets recommend to use them as a replacement for other and more salty or fatty dog treats.

Seeing as bananas are also high in fiber, they also help your dogs digestion and also against some of the digestive tract problems that can happen in Labradoodles.

Along with other fruits, bananas can help strengthen your Labradoodles’ immune system. Ripe bananas are able to improve the health and quality of dogs’ fur and skin. They are also able to help reduce any inflammation.

A banana contains all-natural sugars, and if you make sure your dog only eats it in moderation, that sugar can metabolize and convert into a great additional source of energy for your Doodle.

Watch Out For

Event hough the sugar in bananas is natural and can help to give more energy, they are quite packed with sugar, and that can become an issue for Labradoodles.

Even when naturally occurring, sugar increases a dogs’ risk of becoming obese. So to avoid any risk of that happening, you will want to be careful with how much banana you give your Labradoodle.

Luckily, Labradoodles are usually very active dogs, so the risk of the sugar turning into fat instead of energy isn’t that high, but there is always a chance.

Seeing as they have a rather large amount of sugar in them, bananas shouldn’t be a large portion of your Labradoodles’ diet. They should be looked at as a treat, and not a complete meal.

Human food should only be around 10% of your Labradoodles’ complete diet, and no matter how good human food is for your dog, it will have to be eaten rather sparingly.

The fiber in bananas is another risk associated with feeding your Labradoodle too many bananas. As mentioned earlier, while fiber is good for Labradoodles, getting too much of it then it can end up having the opposite effect.

Getting an unnecessary amount of fiber can lead to bowel issues and constipation in both humans and dogs.

You should also avoid giving the peel to your dog. While the peel isn’t exactly toxic to dogs, it is extremely hard to digest for them and can end up causing blockage problems. So if you are going to feed your Doodle a banana, make sure that you peel it first.

There are actually also some dogs that are allergic to bananas. So if you give your dog bananas, you should look out for signs such as hives, swelling, excessive coughing or sneezing and having difficulties with breathing.

If you see any of these signs shortly after feeding bananas to your Doodle, you must stop immediately and contact your vet.

How to Feed Bananas to your Labradoodle

There are a plethora of options for how you can feed you Labradoodle bananas, seeing as they are a food that can have a lot of purposes and so they are great in many different ways.

As long as you remember not to feed your Doodle too many bananas it will be fine. A full-grown Labradoodle shouldn’t have more than one banana every couple of days or so. And fora puppy, a few slices of banana every once in a while will be plenty.

Plain Banana

This is pretty self-explanatory as the simplest way to feed bananas to your Labradoodle, is by just peeling it, cut it in a few pieces, and give it to your Doodle.

They won’t have any problems eating the whole thing plain like that. Bananas are more than soft enough so a dog won’t have any problems chewing them or risk choking on them.

Mashed Up with Food

You can mash a banana and mix it into your Doodles’ food. This is a great way to get all the essential nutrients from bananas mixed in with their normal mealtime. It will also make mealtime feel a little different than usual which is fun for your furry friend.

Mixed with Peanut Butter

Can you think of a better mix than bananas with peanut butter? Both of these things are human foods that are considered safe for Labradoodles to eat and this is a treat that I guarantee your dog will totally love.

Bananas and peanut butter can be used as ingredients in making different delicious dog treats.

Here’s a simple recipe for Peanut butter and Banana Pupcakes.

Bananas and Toys

There are numerous things that you can do with mashed up banana and a rubber chew toy.

There are certain toys you can but that is made specifically to put foods into them, and some of the best are manufactured by KONG. Just mash up a banana and put it into one of those toys.

A regular rubber toy could also work. Here you should mash up the banana, and then smear it on the outside of the toy and put it in the freezer for a little while.

It will make the toy quite more interesting for your Doodle to play with as he/she tries to get all of the banana off.

Freeze the Banana

Another awesome treat for a Labradoodle is a frozen banana, especially on a hot summer day.

Simply peel the banana and then put it in the freezer for a couple of hours and then give it to your Doodle. The best banana to freeze is a very ripe banana as it will taste absolutely great to your dog.

You might have to slice the banana into smaller pieces after it is frozen to make sure your Doodle doesn’t end up choking on a piece.

Dog Ice Cream

Doggie ice cream is another absolutely fantastic summer treat for a Doodle. It’s really quite easy to make this as all you really need is banana, yogurt, some chopped strawberries, and some peanut butter.

Mix all of these ingredients together and then put it in the freezer for a few hours before feeding some to your Doodle.

The same applies to this treat as with every treat on this list, you should make sure not to give your dog too much. These things are all normal human foods that are perfectly safe for a dog to eat, but it should always be done in moderation.
